Current position: President, Grey Lundberg Inc., a Bellevue-based custom homebuilder, specializing in green homes.
First job: A paper route at age 11 in Vancouver, Wash. After quickly figuring out that one route wasn't enough, I secured two routes that were right next to each other. It took me two hours every weekday afternoon and Saturday and Sunday mornings to deliver the papers, plus even more time just to collect payments from each house at night.
Pay: I got paid $75 a month per route. While it wasn't a lot of money, it was cash. And at that age, cash is very exciting.
What I learned: I learned the value of working hard for what I wanted. I also learned self-reliance and perseverance because I had to deliver papers whether I was well or sick. I learned what it feels like to have people count on you to do your job and do it well. All simple things, but ones that apply daily in my job of running a company today.
