Now: UW Alumni Association CEO
Then: Home-driveway parking attendant
Current position: Executive director of the Alumni Association and associate vice president for alumni relations, University of Washington
First job: Parking cars in the driveway of my Montlake home for Husky football games when I was 8 years old. We could fit six cars.
Pay: I charged 50 cents a car. Others in the neighborhood charged $1, but my dad would only let me charge 50 cents.
What I learned: I learned a lot about customer relations. The cars were lined up one after the other, so some customers who tried to leave early weren't very happy because they had to wait. I learned to placate people in situations where I had very little control. (My mom's home-baked cookies helped!)
