Current position: Owner and therapist at Coppersmith Physical Therapy in Seattle and also on the physical-therapy faculty at the University of Washington.
First job: Working as a teenager at a flower and gift shop in my hometown, Quincy, Washington. I waited on customers, tended the shop, and learned the art of floral design firsthand.
What I learned: I realized very early on that I had a passion for working with people and owning my own business. I learned that every employee, no matter what the position, makes a difference and plays a pivotal role in the livelihood of a small business. Working at the flower and gift shop taught me that the needs of the customer must always come first in order to be successful. The desire to own my own business coupled with my interest in science and medicine led me down the path of owning my own private practice a decision I have never regretted.
