My First Job: Tyson Supasatit

Tyson Supasatit, Washburn Communication

Now: Marketing writer

Then: Campus computer-lab help desk

Current position: Technology marketing writer at a Bellevue firm that provides marketing strategy and services.

First job: Student staff in the University of Washington computer labs. I helped troubleshoot software and hardware problems; replaced printer cartridges; and resolved login problems.

How I got the job: Being an English major, I didn't know too much and so quizzed some of my more "geeky" friends before the interview.

What I learned: I gained a greater interest in technology and some basic knowledge that later helped me land writing jobs with IBM and Microsoft. I've since realized that each job you have is a potential steppingstone.
