Pay: The median pay of a bartender in the Seattle area is $16,119, with most making from $13,324 to $22,321, according to salary.com.
Demand: Average employment growth is expected for bartenders. Restaurants that offer table service, more varied menus and an active bar scene are growing in response to consumer demands. Keen competition is expected, however, for jobs in popular restaurants and fine-dining establishments, where potential earnings from tips are greatest.
Need to know: Bartenders must know a wide range of drink recipes and be able to mix drinks accurately, quickly and without waste. Besides mixing and serving drinks, bartenders stock and prepare garnishes for drinks; maintain an adequate supply of ice, glasses, and other bar supplies; and keep the bar area clean for customers. Bartenders usually are responsible for ordering and maintaining an inventory of liquor, mixes and other bar supplies. Most directly serve and interact with patrons so you need to be friendly and at ease talking with customers. Bartenders at service bars, on the other hand, have less contact with customers.
