If you haven't ironed your best interview clothes, better make some time for that tonight. The fall job search season is kicking into high gear with two back-to-back job fairs this week. In the spirit of October's athletics-heavy calendar, both will be held at Seattle's adjacent SoDo sports palaces.
Tomorrow, Tues., Oct. 13, the Seattle Employment Guide will host its Autumn Expo Job Fair at Safeco Field's Ellis Pavilion from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The next day, Wed., Oct. 14, Jobbernaut returns, right across the street, with its quarterly Greater Seattle Job Fair at Qwest Field's West V.I.P. Club Level, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to Katherine McGee, Northwest district sales manager for the Employment Guide, tomorrow's event at Safeco Field will be a return to form after several months of slow activity in the employment sector. Some of the 26 vendors that have signed up for the event include SuperPages, Farmer's Insurance, Comcast, Clearwire, FedEx Ground, Emerald Queen Casino, Menzies Aviation, Hertz Rent-a-Car, Puget Sound Energy, Goodwill and Sound Transit.
"We have twice the number of vendors signed up as our previous events in June and September, and 17 of them are actively hiring," McGee told me this afternoon. "We'll also have career education, business/work at home opportunities, and military opportunities available."
For the Oct. 14 Jobbernaut fair, organizers say more than 30 companies are expected to attend, with a wide range of positions offered in the sales, retail, management, financial, health care, restaurant, accounting, banking, clerical, IT, customer service, engineering, general office, secretarial and security fields. Employers at the event say they are looking for all levels of experience, from entry-level openings on up to management-trainee, technical and professional full-time positions.
To get a full list of participating companies, it's a bit difficult to navigate Jobbernaut's Web site, which does not seem to have individual links to its various pages (at least none that I've been able to link to Hire Ground). But to get there, go to the site's "Schedule of Job Fairs" page and click on "Seattle, WA" next to the Oct. 14 date.
