'Walking neighborhood' is near lake, amenities

KIRKLAND — For real estate agent Betsy Weyer and her husband, Rob, "location, location, location" is more than just an industry mantra — it's one of the primary reasons why they purchased a new home at Lakeview Lane.

"It's just a really handy spot to live," she says of the view community, located near downtown Kirkland and Lake Washington. "Metropolitan Market and restaurants like Toshi's Teriyaki and Shamiana are right next door, and PCC Natural Markets is just across the street. It's only 15-20 minutes to walk to downtown Kirkland — we go a couple of times a week, either on foot or on our scooter.

"In the past few days alone, I walked over to Metropolitan Market and brought home two bags of groceries, dropped off something to be framed at the frame shop next door and walked to Anthony's on Kirkland's waterfront for dinner."

The Weyers didn't realize how important it was to them to live in a "walking neighborhood" like Lakeview Lane until they lived in Europe.

"We had never really cared about the walking aspect, but our kids are grown and we had lived overseas for a year, where you walk everywhere," Betsy Weyer says. "We realized that was what we wanted. Although new construction or having a view wasn't on our list, we found both at Lakeview Lane, which just tipped the scales in favor of buying a home here."

Seven homes remain for sale, says Windermere Real Estate's David Liddle, the listing agent at Lakeview Lane, and "we still have one of almost every floor plan to choose from."

The remaining homes include traditional and contemporary architecture and feature professionally maintained yards. Two are scheduled for completion this fall, and the others will be ready for move-in by the end of the year. Homebuyers can choose their color palettes and finish materials.

A new model home will debut this weekend at the community of 29 three- to five-bedroom homes. The model is a two-story, three-bedroom home.

"It's on a greenbelt and has a super-size gourmet kitchen. The kitchen has a slab island that is over 11 feet long and 4 feet wide — perfect for entertaining or family gatherings," Liddle says. "There are hardwoods throughout the first floor that roll out to a raised deck overlooking the greenbelt.

"Upstairs, the master suite has coffered ceilings and a spa bath. It also has a covered balcony off the master. If you've not been here before — or if it's been a while since you last visited — I encourage you to stop by to tour this special home," he says.
Lakeview Lane is located in the Lake Washington School District and is surrounded by parks, including Houghton Beach Park, Marsh Park and Peter Kirk Park. The neighborhood is less than a half-mile from Google's Kirkland offices and is a short drive from the Microsoft campus.

"It's a great commute for me — my office is just five minutes away, and my husband works in Redmond. He doesn't even have to take the highway," Weyer says.

Lakeview Lane is being built by CamWest, a Toll Brothers company. Toll Brothers was named 2012 Builder of the Year by Professional Builder magazine, becoming the first builder to win the honor twice.
