ANACORTES — While the new cottages in the Seacoast Classics Collection at San Juan Passage sparkle with the charm and architectural detail of a Nantucket harbor house, they also embrace modern tones and materials found in an urban row home.
The Seacoast Classics Collection is located on a hillside overlooking the San Juan Islands and neighboring miles of accessible beachfront, parks and forest lands. It features three new designs — Osprey, Heron and Gull — by Union Studio Architecture & Community Design.
"These original plans reflect our passion for creating artful homes that embrace an easy-yet-expressive lifestyle," says Bob Gilbane, chairman of Gilbane Development Company, which created San Juan Passage.
"High-pitched rooflines, white-paned windows and covered front porches combine with natural stone trim to achieve a classic coastal profile. But inside, we've blended traditional wall and trim details with 18-foot vaulted ceilings, honed marbles and granites, and rich wood flooring to deliver an unexpected, modernistic approach to the classic beach cottage."
Gilbane says the designs reflect a growing demand from city dwellers who are interested in vacation, weekend and seasonal usage, as well as those ready to enjoy the coastal lifestyle full time. "These efficiently planned, high-style homes are a great answer for both [types of buyers]," he says.
Gilbane Development is offering a $7,500 "Free Furnishings" incentive for the first four buyers of homes with one of the new designs. They're located on lots 66, 67, 85 and 86. The offer features a choice of merchandise from West Elm and Crate & Barrel. The retailers were also used to appoint the new model homes at San Juan Passage.
"The model homes have been upgraded with appliances from Viking, Bosch, Miele and Jenn-Air," says Sandi Davidson, the sales manager at San Juan Passage. "Once you see these new designs, you'll want to spend a lifetime personalizing your coastal home. We've made it easy with free furnishings from two of the best names in the business."
The new designs range in size from 1,300 to 1,650 square feet and feature two or three bedrooms and up to three baths. Prices range from $485,000 to $509,000.
All San Juan Passage homes come with a landscaping package that includes a selection of native, drought-tolerant plants.
"Each new home has added to the whole [at San Juan Passage], creating an amazing streetscape of color and vitality," says Davidson. "Gilbane established landscaping standards early on by using prime marine-view sites to construct four community parks, from which residents could enjoy the outlook over Guemes Channel and beyond to the San Juan Islands and the mountains."
She says one of her favorite amenities is the Guemes Channel Trail, which meanders along the shoreline from the base of the community and extends for approximately three-fourths of a mile toward Anacortes, which is approximately 2 miles away.
"It gives every resident access to our waterfront and all the facets of nature that live within and around it," Davidson says. "It is a truly inspiring place."
