Hilltop community welcomes initial homeowners

BELLEVUE — When Dianne and Todd Fessler and their daughters, Claire and Emme, moved into their home at Belvedere, a banner that read "welcome home" was strung across the front door, courtesy of their new neighbors.
"That was huge for us — it really made us feel special," Dianne Fessler says.
The Fesslers are among the first residents to move into Belvedere, a collection of 81 four- to seven-bedroom homes. Located high above Bellevue, the neighborhood features westerly views of the Seattle skyline, Lake Washington, the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
"It's breathtakingly beautiful here," says Holly Stipe, one of Fessler's neighbors. "We always wanted a west-facing home, and the views of the Olympic Mountains are unrivaled."
Stipe recently moved into her home with her husband, Mike, and their two children. But she's been reaching out to her new neighbors at Belvedere in the months leading up to their move. It was Stipe and another friend in the neighborhood who came up with the idea for the banners.
"One of the benefits of living in a brand-new neighborhood is that everyone moving in has a vested interest in getting to know each other," Stipe says. "As we were meeting other homeowners who were preparing to move into their new homes, two of us worked together to create these banners to welcome neighbors. Someone did it for us when we moved in, too.
"It's easy to get caught up in the logistics of moving and miss the more important things, like a sense of community. You can't measure the value of that in dollars," she says.
Belvedere is a 36-acre community bordered on three sides by the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park. The homes are built by CamWest, a Toll Brothers company, and are set on oversize homesites.
Buyers can choose from a variety of floor plans that include daylight basements, main-floor guest bedrooms, two-story great rooms and second-floor balconies. They can personalize the homes by working with designers at the builder's design studio in Kirkland.
Those who purchase a home at Belvedere by Feb. 17 are eligible to receive substantial savings on home upgrades as part of Toll Brothers' national sales event. Additional information is available from the site agent.
Belvedere includes two neighborhood parks and a playfield, and trailheads lead to Cougar Mountain's extensive network of trails. Nearby amenities include Matthew's Fresh Market and Starbucks.
Downtown Bellevue is located less than 8 miles away, and downtown Seattle is less than 15 miles away.
