Europe to get another electric car option and Nissan adopts methanol fuel cells

iMiEV

European i-MieV
Peugeot and Mitsubishi have agreed to launch an electric car in Europe by the end of 2010, the companies say. The French and Japanese carmakers say the vehicle will be based on Mitsubishi's i-MieV (right), which was launched in Japan in June. The car will be able to go 81 miles between charges, with a battery that can be fully recharged in six hours.

Nissan Altima

Nissan plant
Nissan says it will use methanol fuel cells on some vehicles used to haul parts to assembly lines, starting at its plant in Tennessee. The power cells, which convert chemical energy in methanol into electrical energy without any combustion, will cut an estimated $225,000 a year from the company's electrical bill and eliminate more than 300 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
