Mercedes tests hydrogen fuel-cell model and three's company in future Smart car

Following General Motors and Honda into a hydrogen fuel-cell future, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its B-Class F-CELL, a car that converts hydrogen into electricity. The company plans to test the car in North America and Europe next year. The fuel cell system charges a lithium-ion battery pack and uses hydrogen at a rate equivalent to 71 mpg.

Smart for three
Daimler will expand its Smart lineup over the next few years with a three-seat sporty car. The vehicle, expected to be named the ForThree, will have a centrally positioned driver's seat with two passenger chairs flanking slightly back and on both sides. An all-electric version is said to be in the cards by 2014.
